Polka Molasses
We have been furnished a sample of sugar house molasses, from the sugar refinery of Mr. Valcour Aime, of the Parish of St. James. The article before us was produced by the apparatus of Derosne & Cail, and the molasses called Polka, to distinguish it from that made by the old process. It is of a very superior quality and may be well named, as those fond of it, especially the younger members of society, would fall to dancing if they had a good sop of it. It may be seen at Roman and Komion’s, No. 3 Front Levee.

My grandfather was caretaker for the mules at la petit vesailles. In 1960, I took my mother(his daughter) to Vacherie and stopped in front of what would have been the house. She told me all abou the gardens there. I wish I could have seen it in person, but got to see it through my mother’s eyes.
So sorry late replaying to you! I would love to hear more what you heard from your grandfather and mother. Sorry late replying- we moved then vacation then the holidays!
Hi Earline,
I’ve done research about his gardens and would love to talk with you! Can you please let me know how to contact you.
Thanks
Robert
